Last Monday, we hosted a workshop with Pacers, located just blocks away in Downtown Silver Spring, to energize our Running and Walking Clubs. While wearing the right gear and staying hydrated is a given, the central focus of the workshop stressed the important benefits of group fitness. Have you ever started out with a goal to commit yourself to a regular workout routine only to stop a few weeks or even days later? Join a group can help! Here’s why:
- Peer pressure makes it easier. Knowing that there’s a group of people counting on you creates just enough pressure to get you moving. You don’t want to be the one to miss the run or walk if all your friends are waiting for you!
- Run faster and easier. It’s been proven that there’s a phenomenon that takes place when you run with a group of people – you’ll improve your speed with less difficulty as you keep pace with others.
- Make friends. Exercising with a group allows you to get to know your neighbors, providing the added benefit of distracting you from the run and making the whole workout seem shorter!
- Work towards a race. This commitment will help you set goals and work your way up to longer distances and faster miles. There are also many races to support charities, so you can do good while you’re running and walking!
Living at The Blairs allows many opportunities for getting connected and living a healthier lifestyle – our Running & Walking Clubs allow you to do both. We hope you’ll join us next Monday at 7PM in the Blair East Club Room!
Below you’ll find a list of local races to help you start setting goals for longer distances – we’d love to get a group together. Let us know if you’re interested and come get fit with a friend!
