Enjoy the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC

As winter slowly releases its hold on the greater Washington DC metropolitan region, we begin to look forward to the entertainment that comes with the Spring thaw. With March 27th upon us, our thoughts turn to the upcoming National Cherry Blossom Festival.

This annual tradition is a two-week celebration of springtime in Washington, DC, as well as the 1912 gift of the cherry blossom trees and the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. Each year, tourists and residents alike descend on the Tidal Basin to tour the spectacular display of blooming cherry blossoms and enjoy a myriad of events throughout the city.

This year, check out the Opening Ceremony at the National Building Museum on Saturday, March 27th from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM. Green thumbs will enjoy the Samurai Orchids at the United States Botanic Garden on March 31st, and while Anime fans will rave about the Eighth Annual Anime Marathon Film Festival on Saturday April 3rd. If you’re a baseball fan, make sure to check out the games on April 3rd, 7th, and 8th – a percentage of ticket sales benefits the National Cherry Blossom Festival when you purchase at www.nationals.com/cherryblossom.

And, of course, no one should miss the National Cherry Blossom Parade and Sakura Matsuri in the heart of DC. Get in touch with the culture of Japan as you browse booths and exhibits dedicated to sumo, taiko, J-POP, and more. If it’s Japanese, it can be found at the Sakura Matsuri!
